The downside of giving WAL-MART two weeks notice was that I had to work there for two more weeks. I think I made the right decision by not leaving my co-workers in the lurch, but these final days were not easy. It was really sad to say goodbye to the people I had grown so close to, knowing that I would probably never see them again. In addition to this I had to deal with a mix of puppy-dog looks and scorn from supervisors appealing to me to reconsider. Given my store’s 46% turnover for the previous year, it was hardly a surprise that they didn’t want to lose a good worker. (I had heard from several ex-associates how the store would try to woo them back, but it was rarely successful since they weren’t about to give financial incentives.) However, I was a little surprised that they still wanted me to stay after I said all these terrible things about WAL-MART.
Ironically, at the same time that they were trying to win me back, I began to be punished for my decision. After primarily being on the desk every day for eight weeks, suddenly I was banished back to the register, to self-checkouts, and worse. I arrived on the third day of this to find myself scheduled to guard the door for my entire 4pm-midnight shift: a death sentence. It was all too much to be a coincident – I was clearly being punished. The CSM who set the schedule was both new and ambitious, sending a message to everyone that he knew how the game was played. Fortunately, I was saved from this fate by my friends among the CSM's, who sent me back to the desk for my final days. Once again I had been treated differently; I had watched many others quit as I had, only to be punished or not have their two-weeks notice respected at all. (It is WAL-MART policy to immediately dismiss any associate who is going to work for a competitor, which, since the store sells everything, is every other retailer!)
Breaking the news to my friends in the store was exhausting, but good since it gave me another opportunity to explain that I was quitting because I didn’t agree with how the company treated its people. More often than not though my co-worker would respond with some variation of “who doesn’t?” then moving onto the more pressing issue of how I would eat. Of course, associates realize that WAL-MART is screwing them, they just don’t have the option that I did of up and quitting. Indeed, when I told them that I didn’t know where I would go next, inevitably, in an effort to help they would suggest that Circuit City is still hiring. Why a person would allow themselves to be exploited by their employer becomes much more clear when you consider that workers must operate with this limited perspective.
A few co-workers, however, did take my cue to open up and share their real feelings about the store. One woman admitted to me that as someone who had been trying to advance for two years now, she felt as though she should have been granted a CSM position by now. I agreed. Another friend concurred full-heartedly that WAL-MART simply doesn’t respect its workers. He asked rhetorically, why would the company refuse to schedule one husband and wife for the same shift so that they could ride into work together? Or why schedule the woman with an hour commute each way to work until 1 am? But the one who understood my reason for leaving best was my closest friend of the past four months, a veteran of seven years who was now too old to move on to another new job. Watching his savings from a past life dwindle by the day, he admitted to me that he wasn’t sure how much longer he could do this for. Pushing this sobering thought from his mind he wished me farewell, and donning a smile he disappeared back into the store.

Hello,
If you are still employed at
Walmart are you willing to access
the 'pipeline / wire'? If so, I can
navigate you to various policy and
training resource information that
Walmart by design keeps hidden and
isolated among it's general guide-
line and procedure information.
Also, I have a number of topics
of sensitive and damaging nature to
Walmart's image that is actually
found in their pipeline info that
you could e-mail main office in a
form of inquiery. This could be done on the company system under the 'Ask Betty' site. You could then make copy of your e-mail and the receipt that it was sent. Though you may not receieve a response...question asked and not answered may be useful information as well.
I'll start you off...In the CBL 'You've Earned It (working off the clock)' Check out what parking lot of what business Walmart displays in the CBL when Walmart states it will not tolerate any working off the clock but, there may be other companies that alow this. Now, take a digital picture of that information on the screen
in front of you and relay that
information to the corporation
in question expecting they will be outraged by this negitive exposure to tens of thousands of people by Walmart each year. The suprise is that it doesn't matter the least bit to that company. Walmart and that company in the Cbl share a
couple of board of directors.
Check this out and then I'll
show you where to find the policies that Walmart has in
relation to time clock function
that requires employees to work off the clock. A little each day,
every day for most of it's employee's. Believe it or not.
I watched WAL-MART: The High Cost of Low Price just last week, though I have been boycotting Wal-Mart for more than a year now.
I just wanted to say that I admire what did and only wish that more associates would/could make their voices heard to the rest of the people.
I do however notice a greater following of people talking about their resentment of Wal-Mart and I believe that their numbers will continue to grow. I only hope that it will reach a point where big changes will begin to be made.
Thanks you for your devotion.
I saw your comment on "Behind the Counter" and came to check it out. I ended up reading your entire story, and I appreciate you going through what you did to share it. It's one thing to "know" how badly Wal-Mart treats their employees, but to hear a story like yours first-hand is to understand it on a new level.
I wanted to comment about your co-workers ooh'ing and ahh'ing over your rice & beans lunches, too. For about a buck a bag each, rice & dry beans is a lot of food — it might take some time to prepare, but it's not much effort & most of it could be done during commercials. Then it would last several days & would be a lot healthier than pre-packaged junk food. You probably spent as much on three days' worth of lunch as your co-workers spent on a single meal.
Jesus that sounds like a god awful place to work, I worked for a simular kind of place for 2 years and was treated exactly the same as u guys are treated.
Good for you for getting out! I escaped as well and have never looked back
I'm sure that quitting was difficult for you but nice at the same time. Working at Wal-Mart is odd really. People who work there complain about it constantly and express their desire for change but don't really do much to change anything.
I work at Wal-Mart and have for 14 months and every day I'm there I tell myself that I'm going to quit but I haven't. I hope to take that step by the end of next summer.
I continue to work there because I like the people I work with, although I don't talk with them too much. I know there's life after Wal-Mart and I look forward to the day when I can walk away.
I enjoyed reading your entries and I'll keep checking back :)
Hate to be the one to tell you this, oh naive one, but it's the rare company, indeed, that gives "friendly" treatment to someone who has announced her intention to leave.
In fact, many companies just tell the person not to come back after a resignation has been turned in. The employee may get paid for an additional two weeks, but she is no longer welcome to come onto the company's premises as an employee.
Why is that? Common sense -- a company does not want an employee who is on her way out the door to be around other employees to bad-mouth the company. Hence, either relegation to assignments where there will be little contact with other employees -- or out the door immediately.
well i really do understand were you are comming from. i still work for the place and its still bad.i was pregnant and was unloading a truck have contractions and lost my mucus plug doing breakpacks and foods too.and had to take a leave on sept.21 07 and someone in the office didnt file my paper work on time plus shoved my papers in a coviehole above her desk then had to find them .ok not on top of that note when i came back to work 3weeks after i had my child on my e-vail they droped my pay cause i went back to day to be a cashier and on my e-vail i got ex... on all but one and u know what they had to say i didnt put enough boxes out so i got a 10 cent pay increase i would have made 7.90 if i was still on over nights and you know the list goes on and on this place where i work is hell if you all was a fly on the wall how mr. wal-mart would be turning over in his grave today and pluckying them out one by one....from twin of a smalltownstore
me again i want to clear up om my pay i would have made 7.90 but i was maken 7.50 i got .10cent so now i make 7.60 i was the pregnant lady
Why did you leave a two week notice? You should have just walked the hell out of there.
I have been working diligently for Walmart here in Florida for the past four and a half years...FULL TIME..with insurance ..now that another store has opened less than 5 miles away..our sales are cut 30% so are our hours...NOT EVERYONE..but they are now telling everyone that 'we don't have hours for you' and if u drop below 34 hours a week 'u are part-time and NO INSURANCE IS AVAILABLE TO YOU'..TELL ME HOW MUCH I DETEST WALMART NOW..I thought I was going to go thru my retirement with the company and then after I turn 62 (2 1/2 years) I was going to continue to work for them..NOT ANY MORE...thanks for listening..REDHEAD
Hey kid, GO TO GRAD SCHOOL!
Period.
You appear to be an intelligent young guy; this description of what it was like to work for Walmart shows yo have real ability analyze and solve complex social issues. Make use of it and help yourself
too.-ALW
You're pretty much a tool
Hi,
I found your post very interesting, more so because it was a first hand account. It was an honorable thing to do. Thank you for your effort to expose Wal-mart's working conditions from the ground up.
Hi Guys and Gals,
I just got hired at the new WM supercenter here and did my one-day orientation yesterday.
They handed me a schedule to work for the next 2-weeks and today I was supposed to do my CBL's, but I didn't go in at all.
After reading this blog, I may NEVER go in at all. Plus the pay is like something from 1965. What the hell is wrong with that picture?
And the benefits look shabby too. A full timer must wait 6-months to get insurance and start paying almost $50 a month for 2-people PLUS still have to pay deductibles and co-pays I'm assuming.
All that crap about how WM is for the employee and not the unions, etc is just more BS and brainwashing. I can smell it a mile away.
My last job as a driver was at $12 per hour plus tips, which took my hourly up to around $20 an hour, not counting overtime. I took home $1,000 per week.
WM won't allow it's employees to work more than 40 hours for full timers and 33 for part timers. That's like less than $300 per week before deductions, etc. Who the hell could live on that?
So, to all you future prospective WM employees, do the research on the internet before wasting your time there.
Also, to all of you who feel like the world is coming to an end over the high cost of fuel driving up prices on everything you buy; you can thank WM and other giant conglomerates who import all of that crap from China and outsource all of their telephone support to India. These things are making China and India prosper and now they are getting so rich they are all buying cars and buying lots and lots of gasoline, which has created a high demand on the world oil market. We all know that high demand drives up the price of anything. It's like paying $500 for a $29 Cabbage Patch Doll just because there wasn't enough for everybody.
Anybody else have anything to add?
If you have read this far, I would love to hear from you at maniland006 at netzero dot net.
I have worked at Walmart for a year now......as a cashier up until March, then I went into the Cash Office. Well, I am giving my 2 week notice today because of a better paying job with MUCH less hours....14 a week compared to 32 for MORE money. I too will really miss my co-workers, but I only live a block away and am ALWAYS in the store, so that makes a difference.

my co-worker is all excited because he was approved as a part time "people greeter" in the automotive center in one of their Texas stores. we work for the leading cancer center; yet because it is non-union, wages are such that unless one is living at home with their parents, is retired and just wanting to do something to fill up their day, or married with a working partner/spouse many of resorted to such.
I never cared for Wal-Mart; however, even if a few of us boycott the store we are in the minority and always will.
It's like those who do not check the packages of frozen vegetables as to where they are imported from - I finally found a brand in Whole Foods made in Washington.
I think that it depends in what wal-mart you are hired at, some people just want to make people's lives miserable and they stive to become higher up to insure their enjoyment, however if you have nice CSM's to begin with I don't see a problem, you can't hold a company accountable for what is most likely a few bad apples
You know most companys pay the same, have the same wait on benefits but you don't hear people trashing them Why? because they are not as big of a chain, the bigger you are the more attention you get, I've heard lot's of people first hand accounts of how they have worked at wal-mart for years and years, you can't make people happy when your store is huge! someone will always be unhappy!
Sounds pretty pretentuous to me.. The "bashing of Wal-Mart" has all been done before..
The greater picture is that many Corporations and employers "exploit" their employees and 3rd World labor.. It's funny how many trash Wal-Mart but fail to bash APPLE Computers for using many of the same labor practices..
And I raise an even bigger question.. IF You were working at Wal-Mart to do a "Study" on all that was good.. How did you spend the money that you made at Wal-Mart? Was it donated to a charitable organization or Just to your weekend Beer fund?
Furthermore, to write about the lives of the Wal-Mart employees for your own self-interested agenda is really no better than how Wal-Mart "treates their employees" is it?
I too am in that same place. I am quiting Wal Mart in Ontario. The managers will NOT work with you. I am tired of being treated like I cannot work any whereand that I will never leave. I am waiting for a month and yes I AM going to LEAVE! See what they don't know that I am BETTER than them. I don't NEED their little paycheques. I DO have another job that I make more that $5.00 more that what I make at Wally World. Remember vote NO to expansion and YES to a union!
How did you expect them to treat you after giving your two week notice? I really hope you've grown up since you wrote this blog.
I too am expecting to give my two weeks notice soon for a higher paying job, and I do expect to be messed with for that decision, as unethical and unprofessional it is to punish an associate for making such a personal decision. Yeah,I've been working for walmart since 2005 and since that time i've seen them cut associates hours from full time to part time without warning, thus also removing their benefits without warning.I've seen associates hours go mysteriously missing, i've seen associates being "taken out of the system" for not doing cbl's which is another nice way for firing them without them noticing. I had it happen to me once. I forgot to do a cbl and i couldn't clock in. They said i was inactivated from the system and when i did the cbl they would reactivate me. I only found out later that they had actually temporarily fired me, wiping out all my sick and vacation pay to 0. nice, huh?I think it does depend on the walmart you work for, i never had any of these problems until the new store manager came in. I'm wary about giving my two weeks notice, and this may sound dumb, but do you have to give a full two weeks, or just a 'reasonable' amount of time? I'm dreading my last two weeks there...they can pull a lotta tricks in two weeks and the less time i'm there the better. I had a sexual harrassment case filed with walmart as well, as unwilling as they were to fire the associate, they moved him to the front of the store where he would still walk by me. Only later did i discover they never put it down as sexual harrasment. The associate was fired, but with a clean record. Walmart being an ethical company? i laugh. I've worked alot of places before...but none like this.
Look, I'm not liberal and I'm not conservative, I'm somewhere along the middle. I've been working for Wal-mart for over a year now and I've gotten three raises because I work my ass off. I'm not going to lie, the managers like me, the associates like me, the customers like me, everyone likes me. I'm a hard ass worker and I'm friendly. And although a few of your conclusions started on factual bases, all of them ended in exaggeration. First off, starting this...I'm curious how you could have earned a degree from anywhere if it took you 1 and a half hours to complete the "selling alcohol" CBL. Even if you didn't pass it your first or even second time, it couldn't have possible taken that long unless you passed out. I know it has very difficult questions such as, "is it okay to sell alcohol to someone who looks underage without them having an ID" and "can someone use their library card to purchase alcohol." I know these may seem hard, but the CBL itself, even if you answered all the questions completely wrong 4 times shouldn't take 90 minutes. Maybe you just worked at a Wal-mart that sucked. But to say that Wal-mart period is a bad place because you worked at one is ludicrous. I enjoy where I work quite a bit. It's the best job I've ever had, with better benefits then most. I'm slowly working my way up the ladder by working hard. And at no time did anyone ever say, "check your beliefs at the door and conform" because if they did I would no longer work there. I am very, very outspoken but I also know when I'm wrong. I don't pick fights that I can't win. The sexual harassment that you speak of doesn't exist there. Our store is completely mixed gender in almost every department except the unloading of trucks and cart pushing. Not because Wal-mart hates women, but because the women who do go back there, with the exception of a few, ask to be transferred out because they don't like it. This isn't to say that women aren't as good of workers back there, it's just saying when they get back there, they get transferred to the sales floor. And the Wal-mart I work at always obliges them, to whatever department is open. They do not have to post a job opening for a regular sales position. Only for management do they do it now. I hope you don't read this whole blog and decide that all Wal-marts are bad because of one persons biased accounts. I was skeptical too when I started, but after a year now, the money is worth it and the people are worth it.
Does anyone know how long they are suppose to wait to take you out of the system after your two weeks? Because I was lead to believe I was transferring when I put mine in for going back to college but they took me out within a week so I had no time to get to the other store to talk to the manager like I was instructed to. I had a week drive to get back to school.
Hey there...
Wal-Mart isn't the best place to work for but having great co-workers can really help. It was ok working there when I was back home, worked 2 years and got really close to my co-workers. Then I transfered to another wal-mart when I came to university. Although I would'ev been done in April I just had to get away from this wal-mart and focus on school and myself. Having really stressful situations with my roomates and with school pressure, I figured why add the stess of wal-mart to the list. My manager already had another girl lined up to replace me so I gave him a weeks notice that way I would cover out inventory day for them then be gone. After over 2 1/2 years of being a good, hard worker for wal-mart he told me that I was not re-hirable ?! Whatever I mean, not like I wanna work there for the rest of my life but still, common..... One question for ya though. I was told a few different things and was wondering do I still get my profit sharing check even though I quit?
I have to say, I've been employed at a smaller supercenter in a small town in TN for a little over 30 days. I can see a lot of what you worked with while at walmart. Many of my friends were employed at this same store until a new general manager came in and fired everyone for 'job performance' if their pay grade was too high. its disgusting.
However, I am glad I work at this particular store instead of a larger one. I really really love my co-workers and CSM's, they have become a big part of my life and for the most part I dont mind the demographic of people I work with at all. I will have to see how kind time is to me while I stay with walmart, but I definitely took your words into consideration before accepting the position. thanks for the hard work and concern.
I lasted a month at this place and didn't give my two weeks notice when I quit, just walked in and gave my ID and left and haven't looked back. I requested 18 hours, they gave me 27, way too damn much for someone who's trying to have as little stress between college and work. Meanwhile some of my other coworkers who were wanting full-time only got part time hours. They really do not give a d@mn, which I knew I never was a fan of Wal-Mart other than going there in High School and messing things up. I knew they treated their employees like crap and found out first hand, glad I only stayed there a month, which is one month too long in my book.
They don't try to woo you back these days. Full timers are being dumped as fast as possible. They don't even mind paying unemployment. At worst, two years of unemployment is cheaper that wages and benefits until you retire. Full time regular associates with benefits are a thing of the past. Turn over is now their friend, since many states will co pay your hourly wage if you have been unemployed for a while.
I just came across this.I was looking for info about Walmart pipe line site.I have to admit I was never a fan of Wal-mart who hits all the small business. After owning my own business and was left looking for work, it was the only store that was hiring.I was astonished at the wage they put me at knowing I had been in this area of retail management over 20 yrs.NOT much more than min wage OK that was disrespectful.I have been there for 5 days and have been doing lots of CBL's which are over kill and most have nothing to do with believe it or not in the bakery.I think they do this to keep people there after knowing you did all this training.I found out today the lady in the DEPT has been there for a year and has never went past 4 hrs shifts and only 12 hrs a week. She has asked, but she was put off like I was and most are part.I was told I could get up to 27 if other Dept need staff, but when I asked they put me off.I find the ones that are supervisors or managers or any higher position have taken them years-look at those ones in those positions on their name tag of yrs. Most of these people started at early age.I always felt this is only a stepping stone and am looking forward to better offers as soon as next week.Oh and being aware of the envirnment I don't think it's worth a 3-4 hr shift to drive some of these employees 40 min or more total to get to work with the gas prices on the rise.I will take a job thats closer and save $80 a week by parking my car.Think about it people-do the math.your making less money per hr than you think and thats not including if you use daycare.A thought though I might keep a few hrs just to get the 10 % DISC-Smart-since I have already done all these video training and yes the people are very nice for the most part so far.If your young get your schooling. After putting up with over 25 yrs of retail management and it's low wages and no benefits, I would say retail is the worst career choice.
You hit it on the head! I to got the same puppy dog eyes, as well as the "You can't leave" by management. I just grew tired of being tired and watching my friends get treated like they ment nothing to their company. Now they are left with a in my opinion a store manager who has no control over his anger, and takes it out on them daily. Ive tried to tell them they need to speak out, say something but they are to scared. I do not know what will happen at that store or to my friends but I can only hope that they stand up for themselves.
i have been a wal-mart employee for three months as a thrid shift stocker and in the past month an overnight cashier and the store i work at is horrible the managment is horrible and disrespectful as can be i may be only 19 years old but i am an employee and deserve some degree of respect but all i ever dealt with was a over controling nut job of a manger who insisted on talking to me like i was 4 years old and for the most part a less than steller group of co workers that also treated me like dirt except for a select few i will be giving my two weeks notice to the manger on duty tonight and in two what i fully expect to be horrible weeks i will be free of that oppresive corner cutting under paying and disrespectful store and will never work there again steer clear of store number 736
i have been an employee (meat dept) for 2.5 years now. me and my wife both work full time there, we can barely afford to buy our child diapers. Every day is a struggle, and yes, most management there is a joke. my wife comes home with blisters on her feet while my fat worthless fucking managers sit in there plush office all day doing nothing. Any decent, kind managers iv'e known there were fired for stupid shit. This company has literally taken years off of my life. employees are basically expected to do the work of 3 people with the salary of one, and its implied that this is expected for the well being of the company. anyone who thinks wal mart is a positive power in the universe is an ignorant douche. Sam walton was an evil greedy asshole that treated people like trash, every time i clock in i have too stare at his evil fucking face posted on the wall, or anywhere else because his disgusting pictures are everywhere in the backrooms. wal mart is slavery, money only holds value because they tell you it does. truth is the only true currency, and that place is built on lies and death.
the day wal mart burns is the day humanity takes a step towards world peace and prosperity.
I've worked here for 4 1/2 years. it was the best job. new store manager and moral went from 80% to -73. they treat me like im 2 yrs old and pretty much call me stupid eventhough I've kept the bakery running and important just the baker, for now
Bullshit. I have never had a company just ask me to leave after showing respect and giving notice. Maybe you are simply such a terrible employee that they wouldn't miss your presense for two weeks.
"Bullshit. I have never had a company just ask me to leave after showing respect and giving notice. Maybe you are simply such a terrible employee that they wouldn't miss your presense for two weeks."
Actually, you're full of shit. When I worked at Wal-Mart, they did the same thing to me when I put in my notice.
I'm putting in my 2 Weeks tomorrow because before I even met my manager she didn't like me and has been treating me like crap both her and the new manager forced me to work when I was sick and had an obviously infected ear.when I walked out they told me I could not leave the premises the day after that happened home office had me moved to another position. I went from deli to cashier even though I didn't know I was going to be moved to cashier until 2 days before I wenback to work. Now that I'm a cashier I do not like the hours not the pay that I did not agree to work. Also since I've been a cashier a goody two shoe csm has hated me she has verbally harrased me multiple times. I have already asked to be moved to a higher pay rate and away from that csm and all they tell me is that they have nothing available, which I know is a lie because they just posted a new "now hiring" flier. I have tried using the open door policy and talking to managers but ever since I have told on that csm they have been aggravated with me and just ignore what I have to say. Because of this I tried talking to my store manager but she's always busy and when I see her walking and try to tell her anything its like she's def and I'm invisible. My last step was calling home office and they couldn't even talk to me at the time. I have tried my hardest to have these issues resolved e en wrote a more to y manager but since noone can help me I'm going to have to say good byte to my raise discount bonuses and ....well at least now I can look for a Job that pays me enough to get by unlike Walmart
Wow.Im putting my two wk notice for personal reasons but if they allow me to transfer I will. Walmart is like being in a relationship with a man. They only do what u allow them to do. Ive been there for three years and they have always gave me what I wanted rather it was less or more hours, change of my schedule or change in my position. In the beginning no I couldnt live off of 8.40 but now im making 10.40. Contrary to all this I hate Walmart but grateful for my job at the same time. Sometimes u just gotta stick it out. Ps. Stay in school or go back to school! I almost have my degree and I will be able to say good bye to Walmart without being so bitter like most of you.
I have worked at walmart DC for over 9 years. I have seen so much bs. i could write a novel. they crap in your hand and tell you its a steak eat up. I finally gave my two week notice. And they are all ready giving me shit. And I one of the best jobs in the place. Don't care though they are scum finally got a great job that pays way more and treats you like a human. They all can rot in hell and any one that sticks up for them is most likely a manger or someone profiting of there greed. One of the richest companies and they beg us to donate to theses stupid rip off charities in there name.
I have worked for Walmart a little over a year now and I have to say my experience has been... Well different from yours. I live in a lower income county since the recession and honestly without this job I'd be on the street. I make 9.60 an hour and get 32-40 hours a week as a highschool dropout with a GED. Most of my friends who work for other companies (BK, Tacobell, Publix) don't see anything close that. Alot of you talk about boycotting walmart, honestly all that does is hurt the employees you claim to care about. I'd rather have a job I don't like that than not have a job at all. In all honesty you should stop belly aching, if you can't handle standing at a door for 8 hours you clearly don't know what it's like to be unemployed wondering where your next meal is going to come from.
I have worked at Wal-Mart for almost six months and have hated every second of it. Your blog does not lie, this is exactly the way Wal-Mart works, down to the break rooms beeing to small and not enough room on the coat racks to the poor running of the store by its managers to the coworkers that see Wal-Mart as the end for them. I am just glad someone had the courage to endure this hell and write about it. I don't think I've ever agreed more with something I've read than this blog. I can not explain how happy I am to finally be getting out of that place, it is hell.
I am truly delighted to read this weblog posts which consists of lots of useful data, thanks for providing such data.

I've worked at walmart for a bit now and I must say that I honestly enjoy my job. I don't know what all of you are going through at your stores, but mine is honestly a very pleasant work environment. Granted, I work the sales floor in apparel and not as a cashier and my store is only about five years old, but all the same, I just want to point out that not EVERY walmart is such a horrible place.
As a current Walmart employee about to quit I can say that my store is pretty bad as far as Walmart stores go. My fellow coworkers, minus a few, are horrible people who treat the rest of us and even treat members of management like dirt under their feet. The two managers we currently have are complete opposites, the woman has done nothing but treated me like I'm trash since I've had to call out then tries to act like the job I do is absolutely vital to the company. The other manager acts like he doesn't really take his job seriously at all. I can't wait to quit, honestly

I have not made it through your entire blog yet as I was also reading comments as well along the way. However, in one of your first entries you mentioned that in training they showed you the anti-union video and talked about how they don't need unions because if the open door where associates can voice their complaints.
You can open door what ever you want, and in a good store your supervisors and management would have already come to you before you come to them.
You mentioned in scheduling that they can't come up with a schedule that gives employees any sort of consistency. Well, that is really difficult on the front end b/c of the amount of people and the fluidity if the shifts. If "homeoffice" has you scheduled till midnight, it's not because lines are going to be wrapped around the store without you, but b/c there are other things that a closing front end team should be accomplishing between 10 and 12. The fact that your CSMs and managers didnt value and/or utilize your time there is not WalMarts fault anymore than its not your fault for never voicing your ideas or concerns to your management t team (b/c you had already decided how this experiment was going to play out).
Yo essentially came up with a hypothesis and then conducted an experiment to prove your hypothesis (by the way this is the exact opposite of how that's supposed to work).
In one blog you quoted an article stating roughly that Walmart had reversed Henry Fords philosophy of paying employees enough that they could afford to buy a ford by paying their employees just enough that they can only shop at Walmart. It would be reversed If Henry Ford paid people enough that they could afford Cadillac. You can buy everything ( or atleast most of it) from Walmart, so paying you enough that you can only afford to shop at Walmart really is just the author implying that somehow the $16 shirt at Target that's made I. The same Bangladesh factory, and is then sold by an employee that (on average makes less than their Walmart counterpart) better than the $12 shirt at Walmart, simply because as a society we have assigned an artificial value to "price" and that if goods are slightly more expensive at one place than that place must be better, even if it has a lower starting wage, less opportunity for advancement and less benefits.
Today, I feel like i will be taking a step towards freedom. I just finished by resignation letter to Walmart. It almost seems silly. Ive been employed there only 3 long/short months and its hard to fathom me being there longer. I make 10.20hr, which is the higheset in the city. The store is a prototye. One of a kind. Its really beautiful and in a prominent neighborhood. I started working overnights as a second job so that i can pay off some debt and start saving money. Working overnight is hard work. But when you are understaffed, as the store i work in was, finishing the work is almost impossible. Though they have since hired about 10 people, they never seem to staff the extra people in the areas that need it. Also, my coworkers. What do i say. They are like sharks. They eat you alive by talking about you. Some of the ppl are okay but i didnt go there to make any life long friendships so i dont really talk to anyone. I guess that makes me the enemy. But i have no problem with the management.
Anyway, so after 3 months, I'm excited to be leaving there.
Everything in me wants to just stop going like most other people do, but i guess the honorable thing is to give notice.
The real question is, how will i survive the next two weeks.
Hey stooge this blog is about wal-mart not fuckin fitness. Damn hippie

Shut up! what he did was extremely mature giving a two week notice most people would have just walked out and left their Fellow employees to pick up the slack. I hope you've gotten A brain since this comment
Truth is I worked for Walmart left not because they mistreated me but for family issues beyond anyone control. I loved working at Walmart is it perfect no,but no company is, case in point i also worked for Sears,Kmart,Target,Homedepot,Autozone,Toys r us,Bj's wholesale, and out of all companies i had least issues with Walmart, benefits far exceeded those in other companies in stock purchase and 401K, and life insurance and overall pay, now before you state walmart pays sub living conditions working at kmart i started at $5.25 hourly went to toys r us making 6 to walmart making $7.25 back in 1997 and 98 which was going rate for any retail store at time, i made at another walmart store as much as $12.85 hourly more then Target was going pay me or kmart or stop and shop be minded alot of union places say make 15+ hourly like supermarkets statd good money but look they hire part time no benefits and pay minimum wage you must work near five years. Before you get full time and start making any money all while you still makd minimum wage and only promised 15 hours weekly while still paying union dues and fees. Also working at Walmart i was never asked or instructed work off the clock ever. If i elected of my own fred will and my own choice not to take my meal break, i always had manager sign slip and i got paid of my meal time.

Actually, I have to agree with the reply directly above me in saying that I've never had a company ask me to leave after giving notice either. The last company I worked at and gave my two weeks to were very understanding of my desire to leave. They did not argue with me, but they did try to convince me to stay. The owners (it was a small factory with about 50 employees total) even went so far as to give me a Christmas card on my last day with $50 inside and a note saying if I ever wanted to come back, I was more than welcome to. Needless to say I appreciated the small Christmas bonus, but I've moved on to bigger and better things.
Black friday 2016 is just coming soon we have only one month is remaining so guys here you can grab your best Walmart black Friday deals 2016 and choose your product according to your needs.
Walmart is the worst. Made a HUGE mistake by working here for something to do while awaiting other opportunities. Big mistake. Ass hole managers. No one ever smiles, everyone is miserable and so I walked away after 60 days of insanely laborious work. Lifting 50-75 lbs all day every day. Im an old lady! Too heavy for me and no one helped me. Terrible pay horrible work and machines that don't work for weeks at a time. Poorly organized in site to home and an idiot for a manager. Just a fat pig who was miserable and had the life sucked out of her by the job. Glad I left. They didn't even care. Poop on 'em.
My Walmart wanted to kinda change my Two week notice a few days later so that instead of my last day being the 18th, it would be the 25th....because that's what they already had the schedule set to. I am moving though.I got a house off in the next town over and had originally planned on using PTO to get 7 days from the 8th to 15th (2 days off, 5 days PTO) to pack and move. My manager didn't want me to be gone the whole week prior to Mother's day though because he needed his "best workers" to get everything ready(this was the third attempt at taking a vacation,
I hadn't had any extensive time off in 14 months....my attendance started suffering because of stress and illness and all I ever got was "we need you on board" or "your presence is important right now because there are people missing this week and you are the only one who is cross trained"... other people would be taking vacation's but I was always too needed to be able to get time for myself) . With my apartment key needing to be turned in on the 20th and me trying to get most of the stuff moved alone, I just eneed up telling them that it was time for me to say goodbye. I have been trying to work AND move .... and in the end, I've had to call out on my last 3 days and use up the last of my attendance because I really REALLY needed the time off. So, I kinda do wish that the whole "don't come back" thing were true in this case, but it's not... never been.

My "friend" put in his two week notice 1 week ago (has to have surgery on tonsils)and had written down all of his remaining scheduled days on our calendar, they added up to 32 hours. Magically, last night, he checked his schedule and they took him off until his final day (December 1st), so he can return his fancy vest, I guess. Punishment???? Oh well, they will have a wonderful Christmas. They ruined ours.
I woek walmart 5 years still schedule problem why management no make accordibg availbilty schedule, why availbalty form they give us if no use all associates r in pain for this oh god I go all time to asst manager for this ,no good
Unfortunately management differs per store . The store I worked for recently acquired a narcissistic individual who has no respect for employees. Considering this is a corporation you would think they would all follow a similar guideline . But they don't . I have had my issues with many of the managers who used to work there. I have also managed many years and I never treated employees with disrespect or make them feel like they're below me. I've been in retail long enough to know that I was not going to allow them to talk or treat me like I was insignificant. We get paid by the same company and they don't have the right to disrespect any employee by intimidation. Especially with the retaliation they feel makes them Superior. I've proved myself with my experience and will say that favoritism plays a big part for management.i know because I managed to impact managers that would take care of my continued employment. It's a give and take if you can handle it . The way it works is they receive the exact treatment and response they have shown me . I work hard , believe me . But at the same time I'm probably the one who would receive a plaque for most tardies in the history of this company. But like I said it's give and take and all managers have their favorite s . But back to treatment of employees this company doesn't care about the employees. It's about numbers regardless of what anyone might think or feel . Their turn over is horrible. I do enjoy working with many individuals I've come to know that's the only good thing about the job . Ive learned to laugh at their dictation . It makes me feel better and their task is completed .
