The Open Door

Working on register eight hours a day can be mind-numbingly boring and all too often I found myself zoning-out. During one of these times a friend came through my line (just to get a look at me in my spiffy blue vest) and was horrified by the zombie he found. Apparently I was just robotically scanning items, emotionlessly greeting customers, and even looked straight through him without a trace of recognition. After this I resolved to be more observant and mindful of what was going on around me… and it quickly paid off.

It was late afternoon on a Thursday when the scene unfolded directly in front of the register where I was spelling a lunch break. An off-duty middle-aged female sales associate had pulled one of the Assistant Manager’s aside into the Optical Center to talk to him. Straining to hear over the incessant beeping of my register, I caught enough bits and pieces to gather that the associate needed to change department’s or possibly shifts. She had been visibly brooding over some misfortune for the past few days and I was sure that the two were related. One thing was for certain: the woman was using the company’s Open Door Policy by skipping her immediate supervisor and taking the issue directly to management. At WAL-MART there is an Open Door Policy in place that allows an associate to bring an issue to any member of management, all the way up to the CEO Lee Scott in Bentonville, without fear of retaliation.

As the associate continued to speak, the manager from Department 65 (WAL-MART’s secret code name for store security) walked through the empty adjacent register, studying the conversation taking place in front of her. The woman from security then abruptly stopped behind the associate, turning on her tiptoes to face the Assistant Manager and catch his eye. In a single exaggerated motion she signaled to him by cutting her throat with her index finger, disappearing as quickly as she had come. Looking back at the Assistant Manager in disbelief I saw that he was still earnestly nodding to the associate’s story, never once breaking character. The message being conveyed was immediately clear: don’t listen to a word she is saying. What I had witnessed was two members of management failing to respect the Open Door, and as a result the sales associate was never given a fair hearing. By the middle of the following week the associate was gone; whether she quit or was fired I never found out.

For management to not take an employees complaint seriously in my store is hardly noteworthy; it is just rarely so blatant. The Open Door Policy is a sham that is mainly used as a tool by the home office to discourage associates from seeking a union. The logic goes that if an associate can bring any problem to management without being retaliated against, why would anyone need a third party to represent them? During unionizing efforts WAL-MART throws this message into overdrive, distributing buttons that read “I can speak for myself!” The problem with this, of course, is that associates will be retaliated against when using the Open Door. No associate with half a brain would bring up a serious complaint about a supervisor or the company a whole through the policy. Best case scenario is that you would be ignored; worst case is that you would be fired. As one of my fellow cashiers advised me, you can get by here just as long as you “play their game, and don’t rock the boat too much.”

Hello. I was terminated from store 2684 on April 22nd this year (2016). And I do believe wholeheartedly that I was wrongfully terminated. I started out as a cashier and then I moved to IMS, well the changed IMS to cap 2.. well I worked that for awhile.. I was there for almost a year and a half (4/27/16 would have made my year and a half but I got fired 5 days before).. I had to switch my schedule and work cap 1 which I only worked for 2 and a half weeks and I got fired for "productivity" which is complete crap.. the supervisor didn't like me so she told management lies and got me fired.. I was going to use the open door policy even though it's been 2 months since I got fired but I finally was able to get ahold of the person that I need to contact.. I really loved my job, and was a hard worker, worked my ass off all the time and for them to fire me over this is completely crap.. I always worked hard and took pride in my store and my work. The store manager told me that I was rehirable but she wouldn't hire me back for a long time.. it's just complete crap and now I am going to lose my house bc they fired me which is complete crap. The supervisor wouldn't even help me when I had questions about what I needed to do she just acted like I was bothering her and blew me off. Its crap when I loved working there and would even do the cap 2 supervisor job when they didn't have one..

I am a walmart employee and I got approved for turkey day and when I asked about it on the schedule hey told me no one really gets it off and my scheduling manager told me to just work the hours. My question is why approve it in July and then not tell me anything each time I do talk to them. And they had to comply the last times something was Amis with my days off. I just don't get it this is where I draw a line

I was a support manager for 3 years for Walmart within my time of work before Walmart I had to sit in on terminations as a witness now my status at Walmart is a manager that supports the store manager and assistant store managers basically a mediator between the department managers and assistant store managers not as being a support manager I had duties that I had to perform every day if we were understaffed I took on the responsibility of the staff member that was not at work and I executed the role as possible I was asked to do janitorial work I agree to the work once I was done with the work I was terminated reason for termination was that I had a magnet to close to the compactor. Utilizing previous knowledge and working closely with the back room supervisor my work performance was Justified as work well done the magnet that was stationed on to the compactor was there just for the reason that I used it for when utilizing the magnet I was told I violated safety protocol its safety protocol was violated why was the magnet placed on a comp actor in the first place for the magnet to be utilized once I addressed that issue I was terminated and removed off the premises I open door my store manager two weeks prior to the termination when I when I address my assistant store manager about my concerns I was told that all management utilizes the magnet to fix the compactor and that I was targeted due to Open Door against my store manager Point Blank I have reopened or that situation to receive my job back but it seems so hard once you place your claim for them to contact you back it is now four months since I place my claim and still no reply

I am stunned by what I am seeing on this page. These posts all date back at least 10 years. Whats really sad? I have been working for Walmart for two years now, and everything that has been said is still happening. The amount of favoritism is unbelievable. The amount of associates who are unhappy, and unwilling to open door someone 10 YEARS after most of these posts is stunning. I am a Customer Service Associate, who, over the last year alone, was promised a CSS position, and then watched it be handed out to three other associates. One of them is so completely unprepared for her new job, that she is asking me questions to things she should know the answer to. She thinks that she can treat her co workers however she wants because she is younger than us. I was given things to "work" on before I would be "reconsidered" for the spot. As I continued to bust my ass to get me where I wanted to be, they handed my potential spot to someone who doesn't know what she is doing. Things have gotten so bad that I'm considering leaving my store for another one that might treat me better, or find another job altogether.

Yes hopefully someone from my walmart family can help me out on june 21st our dc was offering overtime for Saturday and monday i signed up for both day's 5 minutes after i did my lead page me so i called her she let me know it was 12 hour shifts so i canceled my overtime for Saturday and was wanting monday removed to bit for some reason thete was a miss communications weekend went by so monday came so i called my hr office at my dc 7006 and explain the issue i signed up for overtime but cancelled was wanting both day's and i was calling to be sure it was if not i can figure out how to get to work since my car was towed from my apartment visitors parking so i asked the hr associate if i was scheduled for Saturday or monday he said at that time i wasn't scheduled so i told myself the lead must have removed my name from the list well on tues on my shift i reached out to my ops management and manager and lead explained the issue they were looking into it but i was told by my manager gene that i should be good because theres nothing pending on my ptl well on Wednesday i was called into the hr office by latesha from dc 7006 she asked me what was going on i explained to her i signed up got the overtime but the lead had removed me from Saturday i was wanting to be removed on mondays also well that didnt happen im fine with that i would of showed up if i knew 100% that i was scheduled but when i called to hr i was told i wasnt schedule to come in so latesha told me i was going to be held accountable thats fine i just didnt want to reach a step 4 so she stated it wouldn't so tjat was ok but them shes pretty much harassing me now i felt i was getting bullied because she said but i will have to terminate you on intergrity i said what integrity i didnt loe about anything so she said there was going to be an investigation that i will ne able to work my shift so i wemt to the pick tower the latesha paged me and i reported to medals and then she told me i was being suspended until further investigation bit she told me i coild worky shift then on Friday latesha calls me at home and says she terminated me for intergrity policy i feel i was harassed bullied and wrongfully sus4and terminated after serving our customers for 5 years can someone give me some advice on what to do

maybe facebook would be better then this page. been fired from Walmart 2 times now. the first time was for injury on the job. well they said 3 yrs I could come back. thinking cool ill just go back to store well I was fired for wrapping pallet wrong way. and I didn't even wrap it. well they did it right this time they reported me to police for being suspious person had me banned from all Walmart and sams club. and now I open my bank account and look at my last pay stub for 24 cents. wonder what lawyer going to say this time

I am not saying the company is in the wrong by no means I'm just saying to WALMART " You will not find a more honest, passionate, hard working person then you have just let go for some petty, undermining, things all because I was disliked an over looked by a supervisor who look down her nose at us lower level employees. If any one can give me a direction to go in an gain my employment back even after the 6-month hold it would be greatly appreciated as I have been blacklisted and informed from a Walmart associate I am now unhireable? I feel my pride for the job an my work performance an honesty should be know to more then just the supervisor that looked down on said associates, as I am not the only one with this issue from DESOTO WALMART.

I went to my super, she sent me to store manager, he sent me back to my super, who then said She will get with store manager, next I know I'm off schedule for a full week, I spoke to my super same one as before also the one that gave me info on said transfer and she said it was the 1st she had heard of my transfer. She also informed me I had a customer complaint I was cussing under my breath at said customer however I informed her she my want to ask around or work with me as I do not cuss in my place of employment. I feel the punishment I was giving was a little much an would like to ask for a review as I worked closer with the deli supervisor Danny at store 152. An he knows his crew an how we all worked together, even when helping Emily the she super in this better understand how things work an the times it takes to get things done. Having one or two closers when four is needed an job still gets done in a timely matter weather help comes in on days off or not, should be apprecatied along with our hard work an best foot forward. Thank you for your time in this matter an hope to resolve it soon.

Who would I contact in reguards to complaining about actually being let go from my temp status because I had ran fever and due to the the policies I was out until December 5th but instead was called and told I was being terminated from my temp status and though because of the covid related policy they enforce which should have not counted any of the required days they MADE me stay home, and I could provide Dr documentation covering the few days missed.I feel this is not fair and somehow not done right. Who can I contact?

Lol 🤣🤣🤣 been with Walmart for 8 years an can tell u just stick to urself always take pictures an notes I do videos how the department look when I got there an an how it looks after I make it look amazing lmao if I have a concern write a note day time an date who u talk to an I sure the hell do use open daccouoor an have called corporate an yes u get treated differently cuz of course there not happen u called are went to store lead but the way I feel is I already let my boss know an nothing has been change then I'ma let it be known hey last night performance wasn't me but only when it's getting out of hand I work over nights in meats but just like upper management always says it's it responsibilities to make sure this is done it's there job to fix it for example if jarry with the wooden leg didn't do his throw aways all week lol what u going to pull him aside an do open door just like they hold u accountable after they tell u same goes for them I promise I all Walmarts are the same favoritism will always be there jarry with wooden leg I work at 4 an help at 4all the same just different Linda's take it notes let it boss know if shits not going right ONLY if u don't have a good team mate don't talk about anyone gossip be good at ur job an u will not be held accountable lmao not great but ur ass will be safe
